Carrying a life inside of her for 9 months is the most beautiful, but also the most cautious phase a woman goes through. During this time, everything that you put on/into your body needs to be examined for the safety of you and the lovely life growing inside of you.

Consult your doctor before you use any essential oils during this special time in your life.

Even if you are an essential oils addict like me, you need to avoid them during the first trimester because your embryo is very sensitive during this period. Even the topical application of essential oils can mix them with your blood stream. In the second and third trimesters, you can start using certain essential oils, however, in a much diluted form when compared to your regular usage. I recommend 1-2 drops of essential oil per teaspoon of carrier oil for topical application.

A pregnant woman goes through a lot – back pain, nausea, vomiting, etc. When used in the right proportions, certain essential oils are great to calm you and relax during pregnancy.

Best Essential Oils For Pregnancy

Oils like Rosewood, Sandalwood, Sweet Orange, Tea tree, Patchouli, Neroli, Mandarin, Lemon, Lemongrass, Lavender, Grapefruit, Ginger, eucalyptus, Geranium, Roman Chamomile, Ylang-Ylang, Bergamot are the safest essential oils for pregnancy. You can diffuse these oils to relax or feel energized, depending on what you need at the moment: just remember not to use more than 2-3 drops. You can also add 2-3 drops to your bath (mixed with Epsom salt) tub filled with warm water to rejuvenate. If you would like to use essential oils for your skin care, frankincense oil can be the safest bet. Mix it with your favorite carrier oil or lotions.

Pregnancy can make you intolerant to strong aromas. In that case, you can use mild smelling essential oils like lavender, which is also a stress buster. Some women feel anxious and stressed out during this time and if you are one of them, bergamot and frankincense are your go to oils. Geranium, with its mood uplifting properties can be your BFF if you are feeling down or depressed.
