PMS is real! When it strikes, it can be very hard to deal with. Being a woman has its trials, but PMS can result to binge eating chocolate, in a closet, hiding from your children. (Oh wait… that might just be me!) PMS symptoms include, but are not limited to:
Physical PMS Symptoms
- Bloating
- Swelling
- Water Weight Gain
- Headache
- Joint and Muscle Pain
- Fatigue
- Breast Tenderness
- Acne
- Constipation
- Diarrhea
- Insomnia
Emotional PMS Symptoms
- Tension
- Anxiety
- Irritability
- Depression
- Emotional Outbursts
- Mood Swings
- Anger
- Food Cravings
- Loss of Appetite
- Poor Concentration
- Social Withdrawal
- Restlessness
These are just to name a few! PMS Strikes and affects women differently and they are all caused by those crazy things called hormones. Once we have moved past the PMS stage of our feminine lives, we transition into Menopause. These symptoms can stay the same or even add a long list of new ones. (Yay Womanhood!)
Luckily, essential oils can help this too. Of course, they won’t cure all of the ailments, but aromatherapy can definitely aid and soothe during our times of hormonal imbalance. This simple blend helps both PMS and Menopause.
To make this basic PMS & Menopause Essential Oil Blend you will need the following
- Newspaper (to protect your work-space)
- Gloves
- 5ml (or drops) Rosewood Essential Oil – Natural anti-anxiety and has soothing properties
- 5ml (or drops) Geranium Essential Oil – Natural anti-depressant
- 2ml (or drops) Clary Sage Essential Oil – Helps to balance hormones in the body
- 3ml (or drops) Bergamot Essential Oil – Helps to balance hormones and has a calming effect
- 15ml or ½ oz Tinted Glass Bottle
I use disposable droppers to not cross contaminate my oils. I also use a graduated cylinder to measure the milliliters. You can substitute the milliliters for “drops” if you would like a one time application in a diffuser. I prefer to make a larger batch since I use the blend in multiple ways.
First, I add the larger quantity oils to the cylinder. I start with Rosewood, then Geranium. Then I add the Clary Sage and Bergamot.
Majestic Pure Geranium Essential Oil, 4 fl. ozRosewood Essential Oil. 30 ml (1oz) 100% Pure, Undiluted, Therapeutic Grade.doTERRA Bergamot Essential Oil – 15 mL
Once you have all of the oils together, they should measure to exactly 15ml or ½ oz.
Carefully poor them into the tinted glass bottle.
Add the cap and shake gently. This will mix them and then you have your blend!
How To Use The PMS & Menopause Blend
With this blend, you can place a few drops directly into your diffuser and enjoy throughout your home. If you like to wear the aromatherapy lockets, you can place 2 or 3 drops on the felt pad, and enjoy the aroma all day.
If you would like to wear it topically, please note this recipe does not contain a carrier oil. I do not recommend this specific blend to have direct contact on the skin. You can add 4 drops of carrier oil for every 1 drop of this PMS blend.
If you do not have a carrier oil available, test 1 drop of this oil on the inside of your wrist, and wait 15 minutes. In case your skin becomes red, irritated, or forms a small rash, DO NOT proceed with a topical application. If you have not formed a rash, then you can place a dollop of unscented lotion in your hand and add 1 or 2 drops of the blend to apply topically.
Create a PMS/ Menopause Spray
Another idea for a wearable application is to create a spray. This can be used in rooms, or topically as well. (Again, if you passed the wrist test).
Vivaplex, 2, Large, 8 oz, Empty, Cobalt Blue Glass Spray Bottles with Black Trigger Sprayers For the spray, you will need:
- A small 15ml or ½ oz tinted glass spray bottle
- Distilled water (I usually just by a gallon from the grocery store)
- Your recently made oil blend
Pour distilled water in the empty tinted glass spray bottle ¾ full.
Then take your dropper that you have designated for the blend, and place 10 to 12 drops of the oil blend in the bottle of the distilled water.
Screw on the cap and shake gently. Remember, when using a spray, try not to get it on your clothes. The oils can leave stains. Always shake gently before spraying because the oils will settle on the water as it sits. Enjoy!
