Learn how to use essential oil for allergies

People all over the world suffer from a variety of seasonal allergies. Some are allergic to pollen, others have an allergic reaction to grass, dust, pet dander, etc. Symptoms of seasonal allergies include nasal congestion, sneezing, rashes, and itchy eyes. While many people are aware of what their allergy triggers are, they don’t know about how to use the power of essential oil for allergies. It may seem to be faster and easier to visit the doctor and get a daily prescription. But many times prescription allergy meds have side effect that you may want to avoid.

Essential oils that are used for allergies don’t cause side effects, work quickly and many do double duty when fighting allergy symptoms. Before you go slathering on essential oils, remember that some oils can irritate sensitive skin. Always test a few drops before using essential oils to treat allergic reactions and dilute or mix into a carrier oil to prevent skin irritation.

Best Essential Oil for Allergies

You may wonder which essential oil is best for relieving allergies. And my answer woudl be that it depends. Here are some of the oils that help many!

Use Peppermint essential oil to apply to your throat in the mornings and evenings (always use a carrier oil with peppermint essential oil). You can also apply it around your nostrils (well diluted, or you’ll cry your eyes out!). This will easily clear congestion and help block reactions from allergic triggers. Typically, the ratio for mixing essential oils with a carrier oil is 1 Tablespoon of carrier per 3 drops of essential oil. You can mix up enough for a few days at one time or just mix what you need each time.

Eucalyptus oil is a very strong essential oil that you should also always mix with a carrier oil. Massage into the neck, chest and back a few times a day to relieve allergy symptoms quickly. Another way to use Eucalyptus oil is to place a few drops in boiling water and breathe in the steam.

Lemon essential oil has natural antihistamine properties, as does Lavender. Combine these two oils and gargle to relieve itchy throat and irritated sinuses, then spit it out. Lemon oil should have a carrier blended with it before you apply it to your skin. But if you mix it you can then apply the Lemon essential oil to your neck and nostrils for allergy relief.

Be careful when using lemon oil on your skin: it is photosensitive and you could get burned if you stay in the sun after using it.
