If you suffer with insomnia, I’m sure you’d do anything for a good night sleep. I know, because I’ve suffered with insomnia for many years, until I learned how to use lavender essential oil for sleep (with the help of other oils as well). Today I’ll share all the ways I use lavender essential oil for sleep, so you can hopefully find some new ways to use it in your own sleeping routine.

Diffusing Lavender Oil For Insomnia

One of the first things I do to prepare for a good night sleep is to diffuse lavender oil in the early evening hours. This helps me relax and unwind, so I can rest well. Some days I like to add other oils to the lavender, such as cedarwood, wild orange, ylang-ylang and vetiver. By adding other oils to my rotation I ensure my body doesn’t get used to a certain oil.

Pillow Spray With Lavender Oil For Better Sleep

About 30 minutes before bedtime, I spray my pillow with one of my pillow sprays: it helps me drift to sleep faster and it keeps my linen fresh smelling. To make my sleepy linen spray I use one of these 4oz. glass bottles, a couple tablespoons of witch hazel, 10-15 drops of oils and the rest water.

Here are a couple of my favorite oil combinations to use in the recipe above.

I love the floral scent of this one:

  • 7 drops lavender oil
  • 5 drops geranium oil

This one doesn’t smell as pretty, but it knocks me out the fastest!

  • 5 drops lavender oil
  • 8 drops cedarwood

Relaxing Lavender Bath Salts

Another thing you can do with this wonderful oil is to make some relaxing  bath salts for a soak before bed time. Mix up one cup of Epsom salt with 10 drops of lavender oil, and spend about 20 minutes soaking away the stress and worries. You’ll be ready for sleep in no time.

Massage With Lavender Oil For Deep Sleep

Keep this sweet dreams massage oil by your bedside. Made with lavender, frankincense, peppermint and wild orange oils is perfect to relax, nourish skin and soothe tired muscles.
It doesn’t happen often, but when I can get my husband to give me a massage before bed, I sleep like a baby. And here’s a secret: have a massage oil handy, because there’s a HUGE difference between a dry massage and an oily massage!

Here’s what’s by my bedside now:

  • 4 oz jojoba oil
  • 20 drops lavender oil (for relaxing)
  • 10 frankincense oil (to keep my skin beautiful)
  • 5 drops peppermint oil (for my achy muscles)
  • 5 drop wild orange oil (just because this oil makes me happy)

Lavender Essential Oil Roll-on

This is as simple as it gets: in a 10 ml glass roller bottle mix 10 drops of lavender oil with your favorite carrier oil, and keep it by your bedside. Use it as needed to help you sleep easier. You can roll it on the bottom of your feet, behind your ears, and on your wrists for quick  results.
