Nothing says summer more than dusty feet, dirty fingernails, and sunburns. With the many activities and all the fun that comes with summer, the last thing we want is to have to stay in the house due to sickness. These essential oil roller blends for summer will help you be ready to tackle the burns, bites, and scrapes and still maintain that cool and calm appearance.
The best way to keep a natural first aid with you is to have some roller blends in your purse. A roller blend is a mixture of essential and carrier oils stored in a roller bottle. Roller bottles provide the perfect storage for your oils and also makes application easier. These pre-made blends also help save on time in case of an emergency.
How To Make A Roller Bottle
A roller blend is a mixture of essential and carrier oils stored in a roller bottle. Roller bottles provide the perfect storage for your favorite essential oil mixtures and also makes application easier. Having a bunch of roller blends for different needs pre-made will help save on time in case of an emergency.
Prepare all you need to make your favorite blends:
- roller bottles (these are the ones I use – I love the stainless steel balls!)
- carrier oils
- essential oils
- labels (if you have self adhesive labels, that all all you need, but if you make your labels on regular paper, you’ll need some packing tape to affix the labels to the bottles)
Once you have everything ready, label your bottle first, then add your essential oils to the bottle (usually 10-15 drops of oils to a 10 ml bottle), fill with carrier oil of your choice (FCO is a favorite of many, but I also love sweet almond oil, and especially argan oil) and snap the roller on. You’re now ready to enjoy your blend 🙂

Good to Know About Essential Oils & Roller Blends
- While you might be tempted to use some essential oils neat, I suggest you always dilute them to be on the safe side.
- Always use glass roller bottles for your essential oils blends, as some oils are strong enough to eat into plastic. Amber or cobalt colored roller bottles are recommended, as they prevent ultraviolet light from reaching your oil and causing damage. Pure essential oils can last a lifetime if stored properly. However, if diluted with a carrier, they take the expiry date of that carrier.
- Carrier oils do not make the essential oil less effective, but simply increase the oil’s coverage.
- For more efficiency, apply less amounts of essential oil more frequently.
- Avoid exposure to extreme heat and direct sunlight as this might change the evaporation rate and the chemical composition, and will result in decreasing the oil’s efficacy.
- If you use essential oils to spice up your meals, avoid putting them directly onto a heat source. Instead, mix them in with your food or drink. And always remember to do your research and only ingest under the supervision of a professional.
- Store your roller bottles in storage cases for neatness and easy accessibility. This also helps prevent impacts that could shatter or crack the glass.
