As women, it seems we go through the most trouble when it comes to our bodies. There is so much pressure to regularly smell like daisies, roses, or how about the dreaded strawberries? ( we have all heard it ). So, I’m here to tell you that you can smell great even without the chemicals, if you use an all natural deodorant that actually works 😉

If you are like me you had no problem running to the nearest Walgreen’s to load up on smell good products. And later on, slathering yourself from head to toe as soon as you stepped out of the shower.

They say ignorance is bliss and I would have to disagree. Before I was aware of the harmful ingredients in deodorant, I used anything I could get my hands on that would smell good. But it backfired. Since about middle school when I started to develop, my underarms suffered from knots, ingrown hairs, and cysts – just to name a few.

But even though my underarms were sensitive I continued to use commercial deodorant, just so I can fit in. See, I’m a girl that has a strong body odor and not wearing deodorant was NOT acceptable!

Do Natural Deodorants Work?

One day while exhausted from walking with my arm half raised because the pain from a cyst was too much to bear, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I researched alternative deodorants that had natural ingredients.

For the next five months, I tried many “natural” deodorants without much success. At the end of the day, when my body odor would punch me in the face, I felt defeated.

An All Natural Deodorant That Actually Works

One morning while fixing my daily apple cider vinegar drink I got a wild idea. I took to the internet to see if my idea was valid and there it was plain as day: apple cider vinegar as a deodorant.

I tried it out as soon as I got out the shower.  And after chasing my one year old around all day long, I was astonished that I had no strong smell.

I was so surprised,  that I had to make sure I wasn’t crazy. So, I asked my fiance to give me the smell test, and he confirmed my thoughts. I have fallen even more in love with ACV ever since that day. I have not used a commercial deodorant in a year!

Why Does ACV Work?

Apple cider vinegar is antibacterial. Bacteria is really what causes us to have an odor, since it gets trapped in the skin’s pockets and folds. Because ACV is antibacterial it works hard to prevent the buildup of bacteria, which in turn neutralizes odor.

Apple vinegar is also anti-fungal and helps to balance your PH. I mean come on! What else could a girl ask for in a deodorant? I haven’t had any more problems with irritation or cysts under my arms.

How To Make Apple Cider Vinegar Deodorant

The best way to use apple cider vinegar as deodorant is to mix it 50/50 with water and store in a glass bottle. That makes it easy to use and store.

For a twist, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil (about 10 drops of essential oil to a 1 oz bottle of vinegar and water mixture).

Here are some glass bottles that are perfect for making your own deodorant with ACV and essential oils. Those cute bottles in the middle could carry your “natural deodorant” in your purse (for  security).
