This homemade luxurious body powder is the perfect companion for a hot summer day: apply it in your areas most prone to sweat and enjoy your day!

With the warm weather almost here, it’s time to think of ways to stay dry, feel fresh, and enjoy living. And a nice, soft, and really easy to make body dusting powder is just what you need. Many people I know use talcum powder, but you know better, right?

Today we’ll learn how to make body powder that will make your skin softer, your hair beautiful and keep your shoes smelling nice.

Why Should You Use Body Powder

If you haven’t used body powder, here are a few reasons to start:

  • absorbs moisture
  • protects your feet and shoes
  • keeps you smelling fresh
  • works as a quick dry shampoo

What You Need to Make Luxurious Body Powder

To make your own dusting powder, you only need a few ingredients, and you probably have then in your pantry: corn starch, baking soda, arrowroot, herb powder (you make this yourself), essential oils.

If you decide to use herbs powder, you’ll need to whiz it in a coffee maker and make sure it’s really well pulverized. Adding herb/plant powder will add healing benefits and a soft hint of color to your body powder.

My favorite essential oils for scenting my body powder are lemongrass (gives it a fresh, lemony scent without the lemon oil), lavender (when I have a busy, stressful day), and peppermint oil (for those days when I need a good pick-me-up)!

Body Powder Recipes

Here are just a few recipes for your own body dusting powder: of course, you can modify the scent to suit your own taste.

Citrus Scented Body Powder

  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 6 drops patchouli oil
  • 12 drops lemon oil
  • 10 drops bergamot oil

If you use this dusting powder on any part of your body that’s exposed, make sure you stay out of the sun. Citrus oils are phototoxic, and you could endanger your skin if you expose it to the sun after using this powder.

Floral Scented Dusting Powder

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon arrowroot
  • 10 drops jasmine oil
  • 5 drops geranium oil
  • 5 drops clove oil

Mint Scented Body Dusting Powder

  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 15 drops spearmint oil
  • 12 drops caraway oil
  • 7 drops lavender oil

Spicy Scented Body Powder

  • 2 teaspoons arrowroot
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 12 drops clove oil
  • 10 drops caraway oil
  • 8 drops rosemary oil

How & Where To Use Dusting Powder

As you can see, these body powders are easy to make and desirable to use. So, where can you actually use these dusting powders? Here are a few suggestions:

  • underarms
  • under your breasts
  • between your thighs
  • on your feet
  • on your face
  •  any other place you sweat excessively

To store the powder, use a decorative jar or homemade container with tiny holes poked in the lid. If you live in a humid area, add about a teaspoon of dry rice in your mixture to absorb the moisture. Use it daily to feel fresh and dry. With the right decoration, this would make a great gift: easy and practical too!
