Best back to school essential oils

It’s that time of year again. The time where we say goodbye to summer holidays and get ready for back to school. There are many things to prepare including school supplies, setting homework routines and creating morning and evening routines to help make sure things run smoothly. With all of this change happening, back to school can feel very hectic! Today I want to share some ways that your family can use essential oils, both for back to school and as the school year progresses!

In today’s post, my friend Chantal will talk about many ways you can use back to school essential oils  and help your child get the most out of this coming school year.

How To Use Essential Oils This School Year

Some of the things I struggled with most when I was in school were:

  1. Falling/staying asleep
  2. Having energy in the mornings
  3. Concentrating when doing homework

Let’s break it down based on the 3 categories above!

Essential Oils to Help You Sleep & Feel Rested

There are many different essential oils that can help with this but my 2 favorites are cedarwood and lavender. Sometimes I use them both to help me unwind and settle into sleep but I always at least use cedarwood!

I have quite a few diffuser and roller bottle recipes in my essential oil ebook that help with sleep and today I will share my favorite diffuser blend for sleep with you. It will come as no surprise that this blend uses lavender & cedarwood!

Sleep Like a Log Diffuser Blend

Cedarwood (ATLAS) Essential Oil. 10 ml. 100% Pure, Undiluted, Therapeutic Grade.Cedarwood (ATLAS) Essential Oil. 10 ml. 100% Pure, Undiluted, Therapeutic Grade. What You Need:

  • 3 drops of Cedarwood essential oil
  • 2 drops of Lavender essential oil
  • 70-100ml of water
  • A diffuser– Learn what to look for when buying a diffuser here

How to Make the Blend:

  1. Pour 70-100ml of water into your diffuser. Please note that all diffusers hold different amounts of water. If your diffuser holds less water, please adjust the recipe accordingly.
  2. Add the essential oils to the water.
  3. Put the cover on the diffuser base, plug in & turn on.
  4. Place the diffuser in your bedroom and begin running it 10-15 minutes before heading to bed.

Safety note: essential oils are extremely potent and it is important that proportions are adjusted for use with children. I would recommend using only 1 drop of lavender and 1 drop of cedarwood in a minimum of 100ml of water if using this blend with children. Learn more about essential oil safety here.

Tips For Using Essential Oils To Help With Sleep

  1. If using essential oils topically, apply them to your skin about 15-20 minutes prior to falling asleep. Although essential oils hit your bloodstream very quickly, I have always found that this length of time really helps me to unwind.
  2. If using essential oils aromatically (in a diffuser) I like to turn the diffuser on in the bedroom about 15 minutes before going to bed to help create a more relaxing environment when I get into bed.

Essential Oils to Help with Energy

I have never been a morning person. No matter what I try my body just hates waking up! I go to bed feeling awake and wake up feeling tired… I really need to fix that! Since I am not much of a morning person I have always relied on using essential oils to help me feel energized!

In my book I share both diffuser and roller bottle recipes for energy but today I am going to share a roller bottle recipe for energy with you. The reason for this is because it is so convenient to put a roller bottle in your bag or backpack and use it whenever you need a pick me up during the day!

Wake Up Roller Bottle Blend

What You Need:

  • 10 drops of Orange/Wild Orange essential oil (you can substitute this with lemon if needed)
  • 6 drops of Peppermint essential oil
  • A carrier oil such as fractionated coconut oil or grapeseed oil
  • A 10ml roller bottle

How to Make it:

  1. Pour 10 drops of orange (or lemon) eo and 6 drops of peppermint eo to your roller bottle.
  2. Fill the rest of the roller bottle to the top with a carrier oil of your choice.
  3. Firmly push the roller top into the bottle and apply the cap.
  4. Gently shake the bottle end for end before applying to your skin.

Safety note: if using this blend with children adjust the recipe so you are only using a total of 6-8 drops of essential oil (i.e. 4 drops of orange and 2 drops of peppermint). Of course this is just a guideline, all children react differently so you may need to increase the blend by a few drops depending on your child. I recommend starting with this ratio and go from there.

Another way to enjoy the energizing benefits of essential oils throughout the day is to add 1 drop of peppermint and 1 drop of orange to a piece of essential oil diffusing jewelry. That way you can enjoy the energizing aroma anywhere you go. Learn about the many benefits of wearing essential oil diffusing jewelry here!

Essential Oils to Help with Concentration

No one wants to do homework, especially after a long day of school! But it needs to be done! I am going to share one of my diffuser blends which will be especially helpful for older children who are working on larger homework projects on weekends or who are studying for tests!

Note: the blend I am going to share contains peppermint so avoid using it in the evenings before bed as peppermint often increases energy and makes people feel awake.

Efficiency Diffuser Blend

What You Need:

  • 2 drops of Peppermint essential oil
  • 2 drops of Basil essential oil
  • 70-100ml of water
  • A diffuser

How to Make the Blend:

  1. Pour 70-100ml of water into your diffuser. Please note that all diffusers hold different amounts of water. If your diffuser holds less water, please adjust the recipe accordingly.
  2. Add the essential oils to the water.
  3. Put the cover on the diffuser base, plug in & turn on.
  4. Place the diffuser in the area you are studying in and get to work!

If you are using this blend with children you will want to reduce the recipe to use 1 drop of peppermint and 1 drop of basil in at least 100ml of water.

Use this efficiency diffuser blend while doing homework to help with concentration. It contains peppermint and basil essential oils

There you have it, essential oil blends to help with sleep, energy and concentration this school year!
